1. Summary

SlayCut is an on-device video editor. There is no SlayCut server and no SlayCut account. Your videos, photos, audio, projects, captions and exports are never uploaded to us, because there is nowhere to upload them to. We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking software, we do not build profiles, and we do not sell or share personal information.

2. Media you import

You choose individual videos, photos and audio files through Android's own system pickers, so SlayCut never needs broad storage or gallery permission and never scans your device. SlayCut copies the items you select into its private app storage and works on those copies. Removing a clip from a timeline does not delete its imported copy or earlier saved versions of the project.

3. What is stored on the device

In SlayCut's private app storage: imported media copies, projects and timelines, recovery and pre-edit version snapshots, generated captions, voiceover recordings, an optional installed speech model, and small preference values (theme, guest/account label, last opened project). Exports are written where section 6 describes. None of this is transmitted to us.

4. On-device processing

Automatic captions, silence detection, highlight ranking, face framing, AI Edit and all rendering run locally on your phone using the bundled Vosk speech library and Android's own media APIs. No frame, sample or transcript is sent to a remote service for processing.

5. Microphone (voiceover)

Recording a voiceover requires Android's microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO), which SlayCut asks for only at the moment you start a take, and which you can revoke in Android Settings. The microphone is used only while a take is active; recording ends if the app goes to the background. Takes are saved to SlayCut's private storage as timeline audio and are never uploaded.

6. Exports

Exporting writes a separate MP4 into the shared Movies/SlayCut folder through Android's MediaStore, so the finished video is visible to your gallery and other apps. Once it leaves SlayCut's private storage it is governed by those apps and by any device or cloud backup you have enabled. Free exports carry a small SlayCut watermark; nothing about the watermark is reported to us.

7. Notifications, foreground service and wake lock

Export runs in a foreground service with a wake lock so it can finish while the screen is off, and it shows a progress notification with a cancel action. Notification permission is optional; declining it does not stop exporting. No notification content leaves the device.

8. Internet access — exactly what it is for

SlayCut declares Android's INTERNET permission, used for two optional actions only:

SlayCut does not upload your media, projects, captions, exports, usage data or crash data, and it contains no advertising, analytics or attribution SDK.

9. Google sign-in and Guest mode

Signing in is optional. Continue as Guest gives you the complete editor with no account. If you choose Continue with Google, SlayCut uses Android's Credential Manager with Google's "Sign in with Google" option. It requests no Gmail, Drive, contacts or profile scopes. From the credential Google returns, SlayCut keeps one value: your account email address, stored locally in app preferences and used only to label the account in Settings. Nothing is stored off the device, projects are keyed by project identifier rather than by account, and signing in or out never moves, syncs or deletes your work. Signing out clears the cached credential selection on this device. Google's own handling of the sign-in is covered by Google's privacy policy.

10. Retention and deletion

Because there is no server, deletion is entirely under your control on the device:

There is no server-side account or data for us to delete on request.

11. Backup and transfer

SlayCut sets allowBackup to false and its backup and device-transfer rules exclude its data, so Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer do not copy SlayCut's private media, projects, captions or snapshots. Exports saved to Movies/SlayCut may still be backed up independently by your gallery or system backup, according to your own device settings.

12. Security

SlayCut relies on the Android application sandbox and the device's storage protection; it does not apply a separate layer of encryption to its private files. The speech-model download uses HTTPS with checksum verification. Keeping a screen lock enabled and the device updated protects app-private data.

13. Permissions declared

INTERNET (section 8); RECORD_AUDIO (section 5); POST_NOTIFICATIONS, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROCESSING, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_DATA_SYNC and WAKE_LOCK (section 7); USE_BIOMETRIC and USE_FINGERPRINT, declared by Android's Credential Manager component used for sign-in, which is what lets the system verify you when it offers a saved credential. No storage, media-library, camera, contacts, location, phone, calendar or advertising-identifier permission is requested.

14. Third-party components

Bundled libraries that run on the device: AndroidX and Jetpack Compose, AndroidX Media3 (playback and export), Room (local database), Vosk with JNA (offline speech). Network-capable third parties: Google Play services / Credential Manager for optional sign-in, and the Vosk model host alphacephei.com for the optional download. Full open-source licence texts are included in the app under Settings and in the bundled notices.

15. Children

SlayCut is a general-audience creative tool. It has no account system of its own, collects no personal information on a server, and shows no advertising, so it knowingly collects nothing from children. Age-appropriate distribution settings are declared in the app store listing.

16. Your choices

You choose which media to import, whether to grant the microphone permission, whether to allow notifications, whether to download the speech model or import it yourself, whether to sign in or stay a Guest, and when to delete projects, the model, or all app data.

17. Changes

If this policy changes, the updated text ships inside the app version it applies to and is published at the policy address listed on the store listing.
